Captain Yared Tefera, co-pilot of Ethiopia Airline who flew Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam to Nairobi, Kenya on (ግንቦት 13 /1983 ዓ.ም) revealed the secret in-depth and in detail.

Capt. Mekonen Adela and co-pilot Yared Tefera of Ethiopian Airlines were told by government aid to be ready on (ግንቦት 13 /1983 ዓ.ም ) for a VIP flight to an unknown destination. When pilots arrived at the Airport the following day, they were told the VIP is General Tesfaye Gebre Kidan going to Bilaten Army Training Center and follow by the Asmara flight. Before taking off for Bilaten, pilots were shocked to see VIP, was Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam not General Tesfy Geberkidan.
