Ethiopia PM fires Defense Minister and Attorney General as “Drain The Swamp” continue at Arat-Kilo.

Addis Ababa, August 19, 2020 - (GMN) - Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed replaced the defense minister, his former ally Lemma Megersa, as part of a reshuffle ahead of elections in the heavily divided nation next year.

Lemma was replaced by Kenea Yadeta, the former security chief of the Oromiya region, Abiy’s office said on Twitter. Nine other top officials were also replaced, including the attorney general, his deputy, and the mining minister.

Abiy also appointed Gedion Timothewos as new Attorney General, Samuel Urkato as minister science and higher education, Takele Uma as minister of mines and petroleum, Tesfaye Daba as deputy attorney general, Yohannes Buayalew as director-general of the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Studies Institute and Nigusu Tilahun as commissioner of the Job Creation Commission, Endawek Abte as deputy director-general of the Metals Engineering Corporation, Fekadu Tsega as deputy attorney general and Hirut Woldemariam as social sector advisor to the prime minister.
