Addis Ababa, September 15, 2017 (GMN) - Al Jazeera Media Network officially launched its regional office in Addis Ababa on Thursday in the presence of ambassadors and high ranking government officials.
On the occasion, the Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO) said the opening of the office enlightens the world that Ethiopia is welcoming to various media outlets.
"Ethiopia is going through multifaceted development in various areas including infrastructure, tourism and energy among others. Our country is full of stories able to draw the attention of the whole world," Mohammed Seid, Public and Media Relation Director at GCAO, said.
"We believe Al Jazeera will work with Ethiopia highlighting its mushrooming development. We are always ready to create favorable conditions for the media."
The Al Jazeera Media Network for its part said Ethiopia is full of remarkable stories worth coverage.
Mohamed Taha Tewekel, Director of Al Jazeera's Regional Office in Addis Ababa, also underscored in an exclusive interview with EBC that Aljazeera would contribute share in promoting Ethiopia's growth and transformation.
"Ethiopia is developing rapidly in economic, political as well as cultural spheres. This means, the media network will have a lot to cover on its plate. That's why we have decided to open our regional office here," said the director.
He also said that Al Jazeera would also work in close collaboration with EBC as per agreements signed earlier between the two sides.
Being in the political capital of Africa, Al Jazeera will have better access to cover more African news from the African Union and other continental offices, it was indicated.(Source: EBC)
