Gambella, January 03, 2017 (GMN) - The Gambella Regional State said the three hospitals located in different parts of the region named after late prime minster Meles Zenawi.
Region’s Chief Administrator, Gatluak Tut Khot, told Walta Information Center that the region has decided to name a hospital after late Meles to commemorate his contribution to the people of Ethiopia and specifically to people of Gamabella.
According to him, the PM made the people of Gamabella reap benefit from the country’s social and economic development.
“The region was neglected during the previous regimes and so it was too backward. He sacrificed his life to make pride of who we are. Unlike before, we are now developing and using our languages as any people in the country. He is our father,” he said.
He also said more than 350 public parks are built in memory of the late PM. Beyond mapping parks named after him the region has put effort to afforest them with various edible fruits, which could be a double advantage.
“We are working to help the youth know the contribution and an ordeal he was gone through to bring justice and equality,” according to Gatluak.
He said sill a lot work remains to be done to inculcate the thoughts of Meles among the youths, however.
All regions and two city administrations mapped out parks named after late Meles. However, the Meles Memorial Park, being built at Gulele overlooking Addis Ababa, is the biggest and unique as it was designed to show the life journey of Meles. (Walta)
